A Mountain of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season present a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid arguing with relatives. I hope you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements surfaced during the break, and should you overlooked some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Truly the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the promotional image for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not yet been announced.
