Miami recorded eighty-six opening half points against the Grizzlies

The Heat secured a crushing 146 to 114 victory against the Grizzlies in their first NBA game since guard Terry Rozier was detained over alleged illegal gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was additionally detained as part of a broad federal investigation into sports betting. Both men contest the claims.

But, the Miami team were not distracted as they put up eighty-six first-half scores to be ahead of Memphis by 39 at halftime, the biggest halftime lead in the team's 37 year existence.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later stated Terry had the support of the team.

"We support him. Complete backing," Bam stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."

Miami head coach Spoelstra added: "Rozier is somebody who is important to all of us. He's had a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he goes through the situation."

Portland also won their initial match since the detentions, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter taking over as interim coach in Billups' absence and guiding the squad to a convincing 139-119 win over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his family but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' by Arrests

Speaking about the arrests for the initial occasion, league head Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner also said an NBA investigation into the player's actions in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We investigated the matter and were very transparent about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they revealed recently was an indictment.

"And 30 months later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise in this case between protecting people's rights and investigating."

Rockets were defeated 115 to 111 by the Pistons despite thirty-seven points from Durant, while Victor Wembanyama had twenty-nine scores, eleven boards and 9 rejections in the San Antonio Spurs' overtime win against the Pelicans.
